Terms of Service

The agreement between you and BoostYard LLC for using MailSignals. Written to be read: where a term matters in practice, it says why.

Effective 2026-10-06.

1. Who this agreement is with

These terms are an agreement between you and BoostYard LLC, a company in the United States that operates MailSignals ("we", "us"). They cover the MailSignals browser extension, the dashboard at app.mailsignals.io, the agent API and MCP server, the tracking host at t.mailsignals.io, and this website — together, "the service".

By installing the extension, signing in, or creating an agent key, you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you use MailSignals for an organisation, you accept them for that organisation and confirm you are allowed to. You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live.

2. The service

MailSignals records what happens to the email you send from Gmail: when a tracking image in it is fetched, when a tracked link is followed, and when Gmail shows a reply or a delivery failure. It classifies each event and shows the history in the dashboard and in Gmail. It requests no access to your mailbox: sign-in asks Google for your name, email address and picture only.

Open and click tracking is an estimate. Mail providers fetch images through proxies and caches, some download them before anyone reads the message, and security systems follow links. MailSignals labels what it cannot know as uncertain, but no result it shows is a guarantee that a person read or clicked anything.

Until the extension is on the Chrome Web Store it is installed from mailsignals.io/download, and a copy installed that way does not update itself.

3. Early access and price

MailSignals is free during early access. Before any part of it stops being free, we will tell you directly and in advance, and nothing will be charged unless you agree to it.

4. Your account

  • You sign in with a Google account. Keep it secure; activity under your account is yours.
  • An account is for one person. Link only Gmail accounts you control: MailSignals tracks mail only from Gmail addresses linked to your account, and refuses the rest.
  • Agent keys act for you. Keep them secret, and revoke one in the dashboard as soon as you think it has leaked; it stops working on its next request.

5. Your duties when you track email

You decide whom to track, so you are responsible for doing it lawfully. In particular:

  • Follow the law that applies to your email and your recipients, including the ePrivacy rules and data protection law in the EU and UK (which can require a recipient's consent to a tracking pixel), anti-spam law such as CAN-SPAM, and any rules of your own organisation. Where the law requires consent or a notice, getting it is your job. MailSignals gives you the tools: a do-not-track list of domains, an optional disclosure line, and a per-message switch. Our guide to pixels and the law explains the position, but it is not legal advice.
  • Do not use MailSignals to send spam or unsolicited bulk mail; to harass, stalk or monitor anyone unlawfully; to track mail sent from a Gmail account you do not control; to probe, overload or disrupt the service or get round its limits or security; to reverse-engineer it except where the law allows; or to use the tracking host or its redirects for anything other than mail you send with MailSignals.
  • Do not resell or redistribute the service, or give others access to it through your account, without our written permission.

6. Your data, and the data of the people you email

What you put into MailSignals stays yours. You allow us to process it only to provide the service to you. You can export it, and delete it, from the dashboard at any time.

MailSignals holds two kinds of personal data. Data about you as an account holder is ours to look after as a controller, and the Privacy Policy explains it. Data about the people you email — their addresses and names, your subject lines, and when and how your messages were fetched — is processed for you: you are its controller, and we are your processor, under the terms in section 7.

7. Data processing terms

These terms apply where data protection law, including Article 28 of the EU and UK GDPR, requires an agreement between you as controller and us as processor.

  • Subject, duration and purpose. We process recipient data to provide the service — recording and classifying fetches of your tracking images and links, noticing replies and delivery failures, and showing you the results — for as long as your account holds that data.
  • The data and the people. The people you email. Their email addresses and display names; your subject lines, Gmail message and thread ids and the addresses of tracked links; for each fetch, the time, user agent, referrer, request method, the IP address truncated to a /24 (IPv4) or /48 (IPv6) and a salted hash of it. Never a full IP address and never the body of mail you send from Gmail in a browser. For mail an agent sends, the message body is processed in memory to add tracking, and not stored.
  • Your instructions. We process recipient data only to provide the service as you use and configure it, which is your instruction, unless the law requires otherwise, in which case we will tell you unless the law forbids it.
  • Confidentiality and security. Only people who need to run the service may access it, and they are bound to confidentiality. The measures we take are described on our security page.
  • Sub-processors. We use the processors listed in the Privacy Policy. You authorise them, and we will update that list before adding or replacing one, so you can object.
  • Helping you. The dashboard lets you export and delete recipient data yourself. We will help with other requests from the people you email, and with your own obligations, as far as is reasonable for a free service.
  • Breaches. If we become aware of a personal data breach affecting your recipient data, we will tell you without undue delay.
  • Deletion. When you delete data in the dashboard, or we close your account, it is deleted from the service. We keep no backups; the database keeps earlier versions of a record for up to one hour.
  • Information. We will give you the information reasonably needed to show that these terms are met.

8. Our software

MailSignals is proprietary. The extension, the MCP server and everything else in the service belong to BoostYard LLC and its licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use them only to use the service under these terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute or sell them, or make derivative works, except as the law expressly allows. If you send us feedback, we may use it without obligation to you.

9. Availability and changes

We work to keep MailSignals running and accurate, but during early access it may change, and features may be added, altered or removed. We will try to give you notice before removing something you rely on. We do not promise any particular level of availability.

10. Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time: remove the extension, delete your data from the dashboard, and email hello@mailsignals.io to close your account, which we do within 30 days. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the law, or to protect the service or other people. We will tell you why, unless the law prevents it or telling you would defeat the purpose. When an account is closed, its data is deleted as section 7 describes.

11. No warranty

To the extent the law allows, the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that it will be accurate, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose. Nothing MailSignals shows is legal advice.

12. Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, BoostYard LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from the service or these terms. Our total liability for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim and fifty US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.

13. Claims about your email

To the extent the law allows, you will cover BoostYard LLC against claims by others arising from the email you send and track, or from your breach of these terms or of the law — for example, tracking someone without a consent the law required.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version is always on this page, with its effective date. Before a material change takes effect we will tell you in the dashboard or by email. If you keep using MailSignals after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you do not accept them, stop using it and close your account.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which BoostYard LLC is organised, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer living in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings there.
